Consultation & Examination

Next, you will have a one-on-one consultation with the Chiropractor who will be attending to you. That Chiropractor will greet you, refer to your completed case history questionnaire, and guide you through a process of discussing your health concerns, current injuries and relevant medical history.

The Chiropractor will listen, take notes and understand what is prompting you to seek chiropractic care. The Chiropractor will then discuss whether chiropractic can assist you with your health concerns.

If chiropractic seems appropriate, and you freely consent to care, the chiropractor will conduct a thorough examination.

This examination checks several important areas of your health including:

  • Physical – This includes the traditional vital signs of height, weight, pulse and other common tests that most of us are familiar with.
  • Orthopedic – These tests reveal the ability of the individual to turn and bend, range of motion, and include posture analysis, head carriage and the weight distribution on each foot.
  • Neurological – The neurological examination may involve testing reflexes, muscle strength and determining the source of pain, numbness or tingling.
  • X-Ray – You may be referred out for digital spinal X-rays if deemed clinically relevant, taking into account recent trauma injury, or specific joint or nerve reflex findings. Sometimes pictures of the spine are helpful in determining the presence of normal or abnormal spinal curves, to evaluate disc spacing and to rule out other problems.

The purpose of these and other examination procedures is to locate vertebral subluxation and to obtain the necessary information to suggest a course of care that will best help you or your child. Your practitioner will develop a personalised care plan that will start on your following visit to help you reach your health goals as quickly as possible.

Your first visit to our office typically takes half an hour, depending on the findings.
